Nos familiarizamos con pequeños objetos. Tal vez por que queremos escapar de nuestra soledad. Sin embargo, cuando las paginas de nuestro libro de vida cambian, nos dejan nuevamente en completa soledad. Este la historia de un viejo solitario, que llena su soledad con su camello. Pero el camello cae victima de ciertas tradiciones religiosas.

We become familiar with small objects. Perhaps, because we want to escape form our solitude. However, as the pages of our book of destiny turn, they leave us with loneliness again. This story is about an old man and his camel. He fills his solitary life with his camel, but it falls victim to religious customs.

Pequeños agricultores y campesinos tratan de resistir a este embate. En la mitad se encuentran las poblaciones indígenas, quienes no dejan de sorprenderse de las mecánicas de la economía del hombre blanco. Sacados de sus tierras y forzados a vivir en reservaciones, estos pueblos indígenas son testigos silentes de la destrucción de su hogar y cultura. el capitalismo global abre caminos en las tierras vírgenes del Brasil. Aquí la ley del revolver es la que prima, y aquellos que han soñado en tierra y casa muchas veces pagan con su vida.

The State of Mato Grosso (“the luxuriant forest”) is Brazil’s biggest exporter of agricultural produce. Main products exported are soy for rearing livestock and cotton for the clothing industry. Big landowners in possession of large areas of land and agro-companies lay claim to progress and the future. In the service of an agro-industry now supplying world markets, they are slowly eradicating every other form of work and production in the region. Settlers, smallholders and squatters are nonetheless defying the laws of the market in an attempt to retain land and economic independence. Between these two fronts, bewildered by the consequences of the “white man’s” economic policy stands Brazil’s indigenous population. Forced into reservations or driven from their land, these people have become mute witnesses to the destruction of their home and culture. Global capitalism is making unstoppable inroads into what was not long ago Brazil’s Virgin hinterland. The rule of law is still far away from here. In this part of Brazil club law prevails and many who dream of land and a home pay for it with their lives.

Allí trabajan los minadores, recolectores de basura, bajo la supervisión de un hombre que ha encontrado en ellos su pequeño cabildo. Entre la resignación de algunos, otros luchan con valor por salir adelante y realizar sus sueños.

The Zámbiza landfill is nowadays Quito's biggest trash processing plant. Populated by trash collectors who work under the supervision of a man who has built his own city council, we find resignation and hope for a better future.
